Donatini Method
RESPIRATORY TEST - GAS TEST

The breath test is currently no longer performed at the practice. After your situation has been assessed during the initial consultation, this test may be prescribed if necessary. It will then be carried out through the LIMS laboratory, according to the practical arrangements that will be communicated to you. The need for this examination is determined individually, based on your symptoms, your medical history, and the diagnostic direction established during the consultation.

According to Dr. Donatini's Method

Bloating, constipation, diarrhea, colitis, diabetes

Crohn's disease, SIBO, reflux, hypertension, and overweight

Everything is managed by our intestines... our second brain is the cradle of our defense system! A clean intestine and restored absorption function improve overall quality of life. To assess the functioning of our intestines, there is a method: the respiratory test, a method developed by Dr. Bruno Donatini.

At the origin

Every bacterium in our intestines feeds on the different sugars (lactose, fructose, glucose) found in our diet. Following the digestion of these sugars, waste is created and absorbed by our blood. They then rise to our liver and are eliminated by our lungs.

However, our absorption capacity can be exceeded by several factors:

  • Consumption of excessive amounts of foods high in sugars and preservatives

  • Chronic viral infection

  • Undetected food intolerance

  • Pancreatic insufficiency

  • Digestive system with significant aftereffects (surgery, parasitosis, viral or bacterial infection)

As a result, bacterial proliferation can settle in our body and cause various disorders: bloating, constipation, diarrhea, colitis, digestive discomfort, reflux... Ultimately, there are risks of diabetes, hypertension, excess weight, and reduced performance of our defense system.

Dr. Donatini's method

To assess the situation, physician and gastroenterologist Bruno Donatini developed and improved the expired hydrogen breath test, adding the measurement of other gases such as isobutylene (methane), hydrogen sulfide, nitric oxide, or methyl acetate, thereby enhancing the test and allowing for the determination of the stage and site of fermentation for each individual. This technique provides tailored and precise management. Being able to measure the different fermentations gives both the patient and the practitioner a clear understanding.

The technique for screening different intestinal fermentations (derived from the research of Dr. Bruno Donatini) allows for setting goals between practitioner and patient:

  • Work intelligently on digestive fermentations by measuring them and adopting a tailored treatment

  • Assess the effectiveness of the digestive system and malabsorption

  • Restoration of the absorption function of the intestines

  • Screen for potential food intolerances

This test provides:

  • Management for "resistant" weight loss

  • Regulation of digestive disorders: poor digestion, constipation, diarrhea, colitis, bloating, reflux, irritable bowel syndrome, lack of appetite, bulimia...

  • Prevention of metabolic syndrome: diabetes, hypertension

  • Improvement of depression, sleep disorders, and chronic fatigue

  • Reduction of periodontitis

  • Modulation and improvement of immune system performance: reduction of allergies, slowing of autoimmune disease flare-ups, decrease in cancer prevalence.

Procedure of the test:

Test performed in the morning on an empty stomach, then 1 hour and 30 minutes after the first test.

(after ingestion of fructose and lactulose)

Gas Test Appointment

Recommendations for conducting the test:

  • Be fasting (no breakfast), last meal the evening before at 10 PM (without excess).

  • Allowed drinks before the test: water or a small coffee (without milk, without sugar) or green tea (without milk, without sugar, without lemon).

  • You can brush your teeth before the test.
